Following the success of their 2010 compilation, the R&B/dance-based French network of radio stations Fun Radio returns with their second album to be released in conjunction with their Mico-hosted weekend strand, Fun Club. The two-CD collection features 42 of the tracks regularly played on the show during the previous 12 months, including digital number ones from the Black Eyed Peas (the Dirty Dancing-sampling "The Time") and Rihanna ("Only Girl in the World") and the physical sales chart-topper from Colonel Reyel ("Celui"). Alongside tracks by international superstars like Usher ("More"), Kesha ("We R Who We R"), and Ne-Yo ("Beautiful Monster"), there are also European club hits from Inna ("Sun Is Up"), Armin van Buuren & Sophie Ellis-Bextor ("Not Giving Up on Love"), and Tim Berg ("Seek Bromance") and native dance artists like Martin Solveig ("Hello"), Laurent Wolf ("Suzy"), and Antoine Clamaran ("Live Your Dreams"). Highlights from the first disc include Alexandra Stan's Romanian house anthem "Mr. Saxobeat," Rod Debyser & Dominic Minelli's '90s retro synth stabs of "Feel Your Love," and Magic System's Afro-beat singalong "Ambiance a l'Africaine," while Duck Sauce's Boney M.-sampling "Barbra Streisand," Swedish House Mafia's epic trance anthem "One," and Golden Crew featuring Da Hit Boys' urban-electro stomper "You're My Lovin'" are the standouts from disc two. The lack of Shakira, who scored two massive French download number ones with "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" and "Loca" the previous year, is surprising, as are the notable absences of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and their very own David Guetta. But apart from a few glaring omissions, Fun Club 2011 is a fairly reflective overview of the best Gallic and international club anthems currently making a wave on the commercial French dance scene.
